Strong winds and freezing weather conditions have caused school closures, motorists stranded and major incidents in the rural borough.

Early this morning, fire crews from Clitheroe helped move a car stuck in a "dangerous position" and cut down a tree precariously hanging onto a main road due to the strong winds.

A spokesman for Clitheroe Fire and Rescue tweeted: "A couple of early weather related incidents this morning. Reports of a car stuck in a dangerous position and a tree precariously hanging onto a main road."
