Weathered sign means residents’ parking not enforceable
While Pendle Council has responsibility for the administration aspect of these parking schemes, such as issuing permits to residents, Lancashire County Council is responsible for signing and enforcing them.
The signage to which the letter writer refers to in River Street, Colne, is, in fact, correct but has weathered over a number of years, meaning it’s now illegible. We apologise that the scheme is therefore not currently enforceable but Lancashire County Council will replace the signs very soon.

Hide AdWe can assure readers that residents’ parking schemes in other areas are enforceable and we enforce them as necessary – there’s just a temporary problem with the scheme in this particular area.
Your correspondent also refers to the charges made for residents’ parking permits. We’d like to clarify that the charges only cover Pendle Council’s permit administration process and not the enforcement of the scheme.
