A body was discovered in the Leeds and Liverpool Canal on New Year's Day.

A passer-by alerted police to the discovery at 9-45am, prompting forensic teams to set up investigative tents.

However, police have now confirmed they are not treating the death as suspicious and have passed a file onto the coroner.

The coroner's office will now attempt to contact the next-of-kin before further investigation is carried out.
