Sport England has awarded Ribblesdale Swimming Pool £150,000 of National Lottery funding in a bid to improve its swimming facilities.

The money will help modernise the changing facilities as well as update the reception area.

And the pool is confident that the enhanced facilities will encourage more people to give swimming a try.

Coun. Robert Thompson, chairman of Ribble Valley Borough Council’s community services committee, said: “We are delighted that Sport England has approved a conditional Lottery award of £150,000 towards the Ribblesdale Pool changing room and reception conversion project.

“We are seeing increasing numbers of people starting to swim again, sometimes after many years.

“The reason for starting swimming is often health-related and we see time and again that our new customers are rediscovering that swimming is fun, as well as being good exercise.

“This award gives us an opportunity to revitalize the pool and help more swimmers have fun, while improving their health and wellbeing.”

Nineteen projects across England received funding from Sport England’s £6.5m. Improvement Fund. The latest round of funding placed a special emphasis on helping club’s improve swimming facilities.
