A top line-up of well-published Lancashire poets will take to the stage at The Ale House, Market Place, Clitheroe, on Sunday, September 6th, for a poetry reading evening commemorating the 2015 Tour of Britain.

Thousands of spectators and the world’s top cyclists, including Sir Bradley Wiggins and Andre Greipel, will descend on Ribble Valley on Monday, September 7th, when the borough hosts Stage 2 of the top event.

The race will power through 162km of beautiful Ribble Valley countryside, taking in Whalley, Dunsop Bridge and the Trough of Bowland, before a big finish in Colne town centre.

The poets, among them multi-award-winning Bacup wordsmith Phil Burton, also known as Pip the Poet and Jo Harding, of Clitheroe Books, will take to the stage upstairs at The Alehouse in Market Place at 7 pm.

The event, called Cycling Stanzas, will feature work in a range of styles and all with a cycling theme, with a special focus on Britain’s most famous bike race, the Tour of Britain.

The reading has been organised by the Pennine Lancashire Poetry Stanza, whose members have enjoyed considerable competition success and widespread publication nationwide.

The stanza meets every second month at the New Inn, in Parson Lane, Clitheroe, and further details are available from Clitheroe Books on 01200 444242.
