AN event for all the family is being sponsored by community group Valley Gigs as part of the forthcoming Bank Holiday weekend.

The much-loved children’s story by Julia Donaldson, “The Smartest Giant in Town”, has been set to music by the Living Story Music Ensemble. The event is being held at The Grand, in York Street, Clitheroe, on Saturday, May 5th, at 2-30 p.m.

As the story unfolds, each instrument takes on one of the characters, bringing to life the way George helps them with his kindness. As in “Peter and the Wolf”, this is an imaginative blend of storytelling and music.

Mary Oliver provides the narration and singing: expect delightful, jaunty tunes with lively jazz, rock and avant-garde rhythms. A treat for George, his friends, and all the family!

For budding music makers, there will be an opportunity to work with professional musicians and learn how to improvise and bring a story to life. A free workshop is being held before the performance at The Grand, beginning at 1-30 p.m. on the same day. Participants just need to bring along their instrument to play as part of a group or even make a solo contribution. An electronic piano is available for those playing keyboard instruments.

This is for all age groups and abilities and is completely free. More details are available on the Valley Gigs website at: {http:// www.valley|www.valley}
