although gales and pouring rain raged around Rimington Memorial Institute, inside all was warm and bright for the capacity audience as they gathered for the annual Rimington and Middop village carol evening.

Mrs Elizbeth Robinson, president of Rimington WI, welcome everyone, including representatives of East Lancashire Branch of The Altzheimers Society. Then followed a wonderfully varied programme of music, readings, solos, poetry and delightful items by the young people, all interwoven with the narrative of the events of the very first Christmas. Plenty of well-loved carols too, for everyone to sing with gusto.

At the close, Mrs Robinson thanked all who had taken part, with a special thank you to the young people, and all who had helped in many ways to make the evening such a happy successful occasion. She then presented Steven of the Altzheimers Society with a cheque for £275, the result of the collection.

Thanking everyone, Steven explained the work of the society both locally and within the Burnley branch.

The evening ended with tea and warm mince pies, in an atmosphere of festive cheer.
