A VARIETY of music concerts taking place at Christ Church Chatburn have proved so popular that plans are in hand for the series to continue.

The concerts have been arranged to raise funds for the replacement of the church organ and while making a valuable contribution to the fund, the concerts have proved to be popular in their own right, the last two being sellout events.

The first concert was in December in the candlelit church where the choir from The Grand gave a performance of Christmas songs and carols. This was followed in March with folk music from local group The Garage Band.

The next concert takes place on Friday June 24th, at 7-30 p.m., when Ribble Valley Jazz and Blues presents The Mark Lewis Trio. They will be joined by special guests, the legendary jazz musician Wilf Nuttall on vibes, sophisticated vocals from Lyn Fairbanks and the talented saxophone playing from the remarkable 16-year-old Tom Allonby.

The programme will include swinging renditions of some of the best known songs and popular music in a jazzy style. These artists have developed an increased following at venues throughout the region, often playing to a full house.

Clive Greenwood, Chairman of Ribble Valley Jazz and Blues, commented: “There could not be a better way to spend a summer evening than to listen to experienced artists performing superb music in the marvellous acoustics of the church set in such beautiful countryside location.

“Taking into account that previous concerts at the church have been full, and that the Mark Lewis Trio are drawing crowds wherever they perform, it is advisable for anyone interested to obtain tickets early. This event is in keeping with our charitable objectives at the jazz club, and is one of a number that we have been involved in organising in the region.

“We are delighted that the artists have offered to appear fee free, which means that all proceeds will go to the church organ fund. We trust that there will be a healthy attendance of support to these actions and this charity event.”

Tickets are only £7 and include wine and cheese, and can be obtained either from Roy Porter Butchers in Chatburn, or by ringing 01254 384893.
