The Clitheroe Concert Society’s 67th season continued with its fourth presentation of international musicians, a Christmas concert from the all-female guitar group from Vienna, Gitarrissima.

Normally the group would have five players but late illness meant that the music would have to be re-scored for four and re-learnt, as most of the concert was played without music. This was not obvious as the quality of playing was of the very highest and justified the totally sold-out audience, the biggest audience in the society’s history.

One fully qualified music teacher in the audience wrote: “Their playing was thoroughly captivating. The remarkable range of sounds they conjured from their instruments was astonishing. The seasonal surprises were wonderful, musically very subtle arrangements, played with enormous enjoyment. Clitheroe is so fortunate to have the Concerts Society to present such fantastic events."

The society’s next concert will be on February 13th when the superb local string quartet, the Stonebridge, will play Haydn, Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich.

Tickets: (£17; full-time students and accompanied children £5) can be obtained at the Platform Gallery or online at www.clitheroeconcerts.org.

They are also available at the door on the night, subject to availability.

The concert starts at 7-30pm (doors open at 7pm) and will be in the lecture theatre at Clitheroe Royal Grammar School, York Street, Clitheroe, BB7 2DJ.
