International concert pianist and former resident of the Ribble Valley, Martin Roscoe, is the Musical Director of The Ribble Valley International Piano Week.
For many years this series of concerts has taken place in The Centenaries Theatre at St Mary’s Hall, Stonyhurst. However, in July of this year RVIPW will take place in its new venue – Westholme School Theatre, in Meins Road, Blackburn. Everything which the organisers appreciated about Stonyhurst – the on-site parking and rural situation – will still be there, plus will be two extra features which audience members can enjoy. First, it is a larger venue so there will be no need to turn people away from popular concerts that have sold out. And second, the seats are numbered so that will make reserving them so much easier.
Friends of RVIPW will be pleased to know that Martin Roscoe is going to play a full length “taster” concert at the new venue next Wednesday, March 16th, at 7-30 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door or online at www.rvipw.org.uk.
This concert will allow Friends to choose the seats they wish to reserve for July. Tickets come at a special price of £12 for adults and £6 for those in full-time education or disabled.
Martin will play “Scenes from Childhood” Op 15 by Schumann, Beethoven’s “Appassionata” Sonata in F minor Op 57, and a selection of pieces by Liszt to mark the 200th anniversary of his birth. During the concert Martin will talk about the music he is playing and also about the exciting programme arranged for Piano Week, which will take place each day from Sunday July 10th until Saturday the 16th this year.
