The Grand Choir was well received by an enthusiastic audience when they gave a Sunday afternoon concert at the United Reformed Church in Clithroe.
The concert was given in support of a fund-raising drive to help improve the church amenities.
Looking very elegant in black and white, the choir sang a programme covering a wide range of music. A medley of songs from the musical “Les Miserables” was a particular favourite, and a recent addition to the choir’s repertoire is a moving rendition of John Rutter’s “This is the Day” – a piece of music commissioned for the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. The beautiful harmonies demonstrated the growing expertise and confidence of the singers.
The choir also sang some of the songs that were popular at the time of the First World War. These are also to be included in a commemorative concert that the choir will give at the St Mary’s Centre, in Church Street, Clitheroe, on Thursday November 13th.
This concert will feature a mixture of music, song and poetry. In addition to the choir, there will be music from the Clitheroe Town Band and pupils of Ribblesdale High School. All tickets are priced at £3 on entry and doors will open at 7 pm.
