Phil Beer, the musical genius of top folk duo Show of Hands, will perform a rare solo show in Clayton-le-Moors next Friday, February 13th.
“An Evening With Phil Beer” takes place at Mill House Masonic Hall, in Whalley Road, and promises a Valentine’s eve treat for lovers of quality live music.
Best know as one half of Show Of Hands, Phil has had a long and successful career, beginning in 1974 when he formed a duo with fellow West Country musician Paul Downes.
From this early venture, Phil went on to be a key member of Johnny Coppin’s band and a member of Mike Oldfield’s touring band, before spending seven years as a vital force with the legendary Albion Band. He has also had an exceptional career as a session musician, recording with The Rolling Stones and Steve Harley.
Since 1991, Show of Hands, Phil’s partnership with long-time friend Steve Knightley, has been a full-time duo. Together they have recorded an impressive 19 albums and toured extensively, recently playing in excess of 100 shows per year and selling out The Royal Albert Hall on four seperate occassions.
They have been high profile embassadors of folk and roots music, bringing the genre into the mainstream arena with appearances on various BBC Radio and Television; most recently the Andrew Marr Rememberance Sunday Show in 2014.
