A TALENTED nine-year-old girl is dancing her way to success after winning the under-10s classical sequence British championships at the annual Blackpool Dance Festival.

Scarlett Houston, who attends St John’s Primary School, Read, took centre stage with her dance partner Sadie Quinn, who lives in Prestwich, Manchester, and vowed the judges with her classical dance steps.

Scarlett, who lives in Read with her parents John and Sam, plus her 11-year-old brother, John, attends Sandersons Dance School, in Nelson and trains five days a week – after school and on Saturdays.

She is currently training for the World Hip Hop Championships in August as well as ongoing classical competitions throughout the year.

Scarlett started dancing at the tender age of four, firstly with ballet and tap. From the age of six she progressed to Latin, ballroom, classical sequence and hip hop.

Her proud mother Sam said: “We are so proud of Scarlett and her partner Sadie. They have worked extremely hard together to achieve this success and just by the way they dance you can see they love every minute.

“Nothing seems to phase them and they regularly compete above their age group level. They have a brilliant attitude in a very competitive dance world.”
