Holden Clough Nursery is celebrating after being awarded a prestigious gold medal at the 2011 RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park.
The winning display, featuring Crocosmia, Astilbe, Monarda and a host of other vibrant summer perennials, took four days for the nursery’s team to perfect, after having grown all the plants especially for the show.
Owner John Foley said: “Having been awarded a silver gilt medal last year, we’re absolutely made up to have won the gold.
“The judges’ comments were great, too, as they said it was nice to see young people being interested in horticulture at this level.”
The win comes on the back of a busy month for the nursery, having also been featured on the BBC’s Gardeners World last week. The television feature focused on how plants grown at the nursery have to contend with the challenging climate of the Ribble Valley and are therefore likely to thrive here as they grow. John continued: “We’re delighted to be enjoying some real success, as we’ve worked so hard to build up our specialist plant collections and we look forward to winning more awards in the future.”
