Fun and entertainment for all the family is promised at the annual Clitheroe Christmas Festival on Saturday.

The final touches are currently being made to the festival to ensure the event is the best celebration yet of what the town has to offer.

In addition to a visit from Father Christmas, who will arrive in Clitheroe at 10-20 am travelling on the train from Blackburn, the event’s organisers – Clitheroe Chamber of Trade and Commerce – are pleased to announce that Santa will be accompanied by representatives of Clitheroe Mod Festival who will be riding their scooters.

In another coup for organisers, Olaf, the much-loved snowman character from the hit Disney film “Frozen” will also be visiting the festive event and posing for photos around the town.

There will be entertainment and activities galore at the event with a hog roast, mulled wine and mince pies being served in the area next to the Rose and Crown pub on Castle Street.

There will also be children’s biscuit crafts, a tea cup ride plus craft and charity stalls offering a range of Christmas wares.

Daniel Williams, President of Clitheroe Chamber or Trade, Daniel Williams has expressed his thanks to everyone involved with the event so far.

Looking forward to another successful day, he commented: “We’ve had an excellent response from the local community and town centre businesses.

“The town has really pulled together and as well as the work of the volunteers, schools, local organisations and small business owners I’m pleased to be able to once again thank Sainsbury’s and Aldi for their support with the Grotto. Everything is in place for a great day.”

Businesswoman Sarah Burke, of Igloo, added: “We’ve all worked very hard to put the day together and are looking forward to showing what the town has to offer. The shops are looking festive, the Christmas trees are up and the Crib is in place.

“Santa and the Walking Nativity have become synonymous with Christmas in Clitheroe and we’re looking forward to an excellent festive family day.”

Last year the event raised a significant amount for Help for Local Heroes and local charity organisations and this year all proceeds will be shared amongst the supporting organisations and North West Air Ambulance whose representatives will be there on the day.

Saturday, December 5th is also National Small Business Saturday when everyone is encouraged to support their smaller independent, privately owned shops.
