Read recorded a comprehensive victory over last season’s Ribblesdale Cricket League runners up Whalley.
After Kyle O’Connor opened with 37, Michael Whalley and paid man Matthew Walker (pictured) proved simply unplayable. The pair hit centuries in Read’s 375-4, adding 204 runs for the second wicket.
Walker hit 20 fours and five sixes in his sublime knock of 161 and Whalley hit 13 fours and three sixes in his 107.
Richards, Jamie Woodall and Jack Wood all took a couple of wickets apiece to cut Whalley’s innings short and bring home the bacon.
Ribblesdale Wanderers moved back up to third in the second tier of the Ribblesdale Cricket League with a narrow win over Euxton.
Just six runs separated the pair at the close of play with Mack Spencer’s knock of 97 swinging the pendulum one way before Aneeq Hassan’s 103 threatened to gravitate it back towards the visitors.
Spencer put on 117 runs for the opening wicket alongside Andrew Needham (42) while Andy Worthy added 30 in the 216-8 finish.
Hassan’s knock gave Wanderers work to do but in the end they just found enough to prevail.
Salesbury lost ground in the race for promotion, dropping a place in the table with a 59-run loss to Senior League B leaders Cherry Tree.
Hashen Ramanayake top scored for the visitors with 52 while opener Liam Parkinson added 32 but the remainder struggled to make any impression and the home side’s 199-7 proved more than enough.
