Ramsbottom Cup Finalists Whalley suffered a surprise defeat in the Ribblesdale League on Saturday.

Whalley were undone against Section A’s bottom side Euxton at Balshaw Park, as the Chorley side gave their survival hopes a shot in the arm.

The Balshaw Park side still sit bottom of Section A, in the solitary automatic relegation slot, as rivals Salesbury also recorded an upset against Read.

But they now sit nine points behind the Red Caps, and another 17 behind Oswaldtwistle Immanuel.

Whalley were in trouble from the off, reduced to 15-3.

Sam Sweeney (40) shared 30 with Mark Fallon (14) for the fourth wicket, and then 34 with skipper Richard Palmer (21) for the fifth wicket, but the tail failed to wag as Whalley were all out for 109 inside 38 overs.

The wickets were shared between Chris Pearson (2-36), Joseph 2-22, Ravi Dhar 2-20 and Guarav Dhar (2-17).

Euxton knocked the runs off for the loss of four wickets inside 34 overs as Guarav Dhar hit 20, Johnny Riekert 52 not out, and James Bone 16.
