Over the last 12 months, Rosemere has given East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, which manages Burnley General Hospital, £160,000 to spend on improving the hospital’s cancer services and treatments.

To help it continue such work next year, it now wants families, work colleagues, groups of friends, club members and individuals to take part in its 1km Santa Dash/Stroll around the events triangle on Saturday, November 26th, starting at 10 am.

Burnley FC has promised a star player to set the event off, which takes place ahead of the Clarets’ lunchtime home clash against Manchester City.

Last year, when Rosemere held its inaugural dash, striker Ashley Barnes performed the starting honours.

Rosemere’s East Lancs fund-raising co-ordinator Louise Grant said: “This year, our dash/stroll has the support of the Up and Active team, which co-ordinates exercise and fitness events throughout East Lancashire. We are hopeful this will help swell numbers taking part.

“It’s very much a fun event. We have made it a dash/stroll as we didn’t want people to be put off from taking part by having the word dash on its own in case it suggested to people that they have to run as fast as possible when in fact, they can go at their own pace.

“We would however like people to dress in festive costume if possible to add to the atmosphere. It needn’t be full costume – just a Santa hat would do.”

To enter, visit www.rosemere.org.uk or email [email protected]. Alternatively, phone 01772 522913. There is a £5 entry fee for adults but accompanied children under 16 can take part for free.
