Just two weeks after the senior Salesbury team won the Watson Ramsbottom Solicitors Ribblesdale League Twenty20 competition, the Salesbury Under 18 team, led by Pete Richardson, clinched victory in their event.
Played at Chatburn Road, the home of opponents Clitheroe, the match was in doubt due to rain, but the ground staff managed to get the ground fit, and play started on time.
Salesbury batted first and after eight overs were struggling to make any headway with the score on 29-2. Clitheroe’s bowlers were proving difficult to get away, particularly Ryan Cattermole and Omar Hussain. With only seven overs left the Red Caps had only advanced to 52-4.
With Jack Stones (35) leading the charge, supported by Callum Grantham and Sam Bristol, Salesbury took their score to 118-6.
Harry Lang was in fine form with the bat as the hosts moved to 34-0 after six overs.
Then a flurry of wickets - including two in two balls for Eddie James - left them on 65-4 after 14 overs.
Tight bowling by Scott Wharton and competitive fielding by the Red Caps meant Clitheroe couldn’t reach the scoring rate needed and the final score of 84-6 left the Salesbury Club with their second T20 victory of the season on Clitheroe’s ground.
Team Manager Mike Introna said “We had the batting in depth to achieve six per over and the accurate bowling to limit runs.”
