Read Cricket Club have confirmed the capture of Cape Cobras Franchise player Keegan Petersen as their professional for the 2015 campaign.
The 21-year-old will follow on from South African paid man Brandon Scullard who assisted with 455 runs and 84 wickets as the Whalley Road club ended the season as Twenty20 champions while qualifying for the LCB Knockout Cup.
Petersen, who hails from Paarl, was recently named as Cricket South Africa’s Provincial Three-Day Cricketer of the Year at an awards breakfast held in Johannesburg.
Over the course of the 2013/14 term, Petersen finished as the competition’s leading run scorer, representing Boland, with 965 runs at an average of 48.25 over 13 matches, which included a highest score of 225 not out.
Read second XI skipper Andrew Turner said: “Keegan’s appointment shows yet again that Read’s committee is totally dedicated to providing the club and the Ribblesdale League with another young, talented and extremely exciting professional.
“At 21 years of age he fits perfectly in to the balance of our first team squad and continues our full commitment to build a first team full of young and dynamic players who will in time enjoy a prolonged period of league and cup success.”
He added: “Keegan is predominantly a batsman who builds big innings and he has a great appetite for big scores as seen with his recent First Class 225 not out. He also brings with him the ability to bowl excellent leg spin to compliment his obvious batting ability as well as playing an active coaching role to continue our junior and youth development programme.”
