Read’s unbeaten start to the campaign was brought to an abrupt halt by Barnoldswick at Whalley Road.

The hosts were restricted to a 79-run tally on their own patch with Kyle O’Connor (13), paid man Ravi Jangid (19) and Andrew Rushton (11 not out) the only personnel to make double figures.

Visiting professional Shashrika Pussegolla claimed figures of 4-21 from a seven-over spell while Mohammed Saffii and Abdul Saddique grabbed the remaining wickets.

The victors secured their six-wicket win at the halfway point of the innings, though Frank Barden did his best to prevent the inevitable with 3-18.

Joe Marshall’s side, who beat Padiham on a bowl-out in the opening fixture of the Twenty20 competition, responded admirably to that reversal and booked their passage in to the next round of the LCB Knockout Trophy with a resounding victory over In Time CC.

Three wickets apiece from the skipper and paid man in addition to another two from stalwart Warren Eastham laid the foundations for the hosts as they restricted their opponents to a 126-run total.

And the hosts were clinical in their response as they swiftly knocked off the runs without loss.

Mohammed Zafran struck nine fours to make 47 from as many balls while Ben Gorton found the boundary on 10 occasions in making 51.

Read will now take on Longridge CC on home soil in the second round on June 12th.
