Whalley maintained their perfect start to their Ribblesdale Cricket League campaign with a 64-run triumph away at Feniscowles.

Last season’s runners up, finishing behind champions Settle, could have had a real battle on their hands at the War Memorial Ground but Declan Bailey, Sam Sweeney and Joel Blain provided the visitors with the ammunition they needed.

After openers Mark Fallon (33) and Stuart Crabtree (22) provided the platform, the former Lowerhouse batsman made 69, which included 11 fours, as they finished up on 203.

A knock of 84 from Henco Murphy threatened the away side’s lead but Sweeney, alongside the club’s overseas amateur, soon got in to the swing of things.

The Station Road amateur took 4-45 while Blain added 3-27 to secure victory.

However, a tremendous ton from sub-professional Ryan Canning saw Padiham topple the defending champions in the group stages of the Ramsbottom Cup.

Chasing 209 at the Arbories, the South African hit eight fours and five sixes during his 93 ball knock to finish unbeaten on 101 as the hosts triumphed by six wickets.

Crabtree’s 82 saw the visitors post a more than respectable total in the Group Three game as Sweeney (30), captain Richard Lamb (29) and Blain (25) batted well around him.

However, Curtis Meehan continued his fine start to the season when claiming another four victims at the expense of 48 runs from eight overs to prevent Whalley from doing any further damage.
