Clitheroe’s Sophie Lamb will join fellow internationals Gemma Clews and Sammy Fuller to represent England in the Nations Cup at the Welsh women’s open stroke play championship at Conwy Golf Club this weekend.

The competition starts tomorrow and runs until Sunday.

Sophie, 18, was runner-up in the 2015 England Girls’ Order of Merit and represented England in the winning women’s Home Internationals team.

This year she has won the Sunningdale Foursomes, reached the quarter-finals of the Spanish amateur and was 15th in the Irish stroke play.

l The Post Office Cup’s Par Bogey format always creates close results, and this was no different this weekend at Mytton Fold.

John Farnsworth won with a score of +1, ahead of six players split by countback only, one shot behind. David Bolton took second, and Angus Barr was third.

The two’s pot was shared between John Kwasniewsk, Chris Chadwick and John Berry.

The current Birdie Tree top three are John Berry and Richard Palmer with five, followed by Dave Bolton with four. Leading Division One (17 and under) Eclectic are John Berry, Richard Palmer and Chris Chadwick – all 71.

Leading Division 2 Eclectic (18 and over ) is Sam Rayner with 73, followed by Dave Pennington (82) and John Farnsworth (83).

l Whalley Ladies played the LLCGA Club Qualifier for both the handicap and bronze Tournaments.

Shirley Palich won (93-17-76) on a card play off against Lady Captain Margaret Calvert (96-20-76) with Cathy Haworth (110-33-77) third.

The Stableford competition was won by June Walmsley’s 30 points.

Playing the back nine in one over par, 14-handicapper Geoff Cartledge won Saturday’s Stableford competition at Clitheroe Golf Club with 41 points after a card play-off with Mark Jones. Colin Mustoe was third with 39 points.

Mark Ashworth was the Division One winner with a round of 68 gross for 37 points,

Denis Underwood took the Division Two prize with 37 points, and Division Three was won by Conrad Hogarth, also with 37 points.

Brian Stokes’ 41 points won the Seniors’ Stableford on Tuesday, after cards from Steve Jones. Nigel Clarke was third (39 points).

The Ladies’ Scott Leggatt Fousomes on Thursday went to Maureen Cox and Debra Wood after cards from Janette Dowdy and Jean Alcock on 33 points. Tracey Bentley and Marilyn Fletcher were third with 32points, also after a card play-off. A Ladies’ Nine-Hole Qualifier was won by Jacqueline Bury with 17 points, two better than Eileen Lambert.
