Read’s Kyle O’Connor has hailed the club’s victory over league leaders Settle as ‘one of the best performances’ he’s experienced during his tenure as skipper.

The Whalley Road outfit moved to within seven points of leaders Clitheroe after registering their first league win at the Marshfield Ground in over a decade.

Joey Marshall’s knock of 56, coupled with paid man Keegan Petersen’s 39 helped the visitors to a 171-6 total before Settle fell 43 runs short of their target.

Elliot Lowes claimed figures of 4-29 while Andrew Rushton added 4-23.

“It’s possibly one of the best performances I’ve been involved in as captain,” beamed O’Connor. “It topped the performance when we beat Settle in the cup four years ago.

“I think the last time we beat them at their place in the league was when we had Akram Raza as professional 12 years ago! It must be psychological because we’ve always struggled there.”

However, Read were dumped out of the LCB Knockout Cup after a 105-run loss at home to Bradshaw. Younis Anwar top-scored for the visitors with 91 while familiar face Kamran Younis contributed 67 in a total of 239. Lowes picked up another five wickets and Petersen added three.

In reply, Michael Whalley’s 36 wasn’t substantial enough to impact on their opponent’s tally.

Read host Oswaldtwistle on Saturday before travelling to Clitheroe on Sunday.
