While most cricket clubs are just beginning their indoor training for the forthcoming season, a group of Ribble Valley youngsters are heading out to train and play in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
The Ribble Valley Raiders Select team will be playing against local academies and schools, as well as taking time out to embark upon social, cultural and cricket based experiences.
Notably, they will be watching the Masters Cricket League final and various Pakistan Super League fixtures, featuring several former and current Ribblesdale and Lancashire League professionals such as Imran Khalid, Anwar Ali, Adnan Rasool and Ashar Zaidi.
Tour co ordinator Farouk Hussain said: “It’s a great cricketing experience for the youngsters aged from 13-18, playing in coloured clothing, white balls and incredibly scenic grounds,on unfamiliar surfaces. It’s made even more special that for the first time we have a female cricketer, Eve Whaling, making the trip. Finally, a special thanks to all our supporters who have made financial donations to assist with the tour.”
