Clitheroe’s Barry O’Neill enjoyed a return to racing on his Honda CBR600 after a year out.

The bike is eligible for the golden era supersport class, and in his first race of this season at Anglesey earlier this month, the 41-year-old was excited to be back.

Not long into his practice session, Barry encountered a running problem with his bike, so could not circulate at a pace he was happy with.

He came back to the garage and set about finding the problem. and eventually found a split in his fuel pipe. The pipe was soon changed and the warm up lap confirmed things were back to normal.

Barry qualified in 31st position, so had some work to do. Unfortunately, three laps in the red flag came out and they were stopped and sent back to the paddock.

The restart saw Barry back to 31st. Again, the lights went out, and he set about trying to gain places.

All was going well until a collision with another bike sent him onto the grass, but he managed to remain upright. Finishing 18th overall, and 10th in class was a good result for race one, which would put him 18th on the grid for race two.

Race two came after lunch, and the local rider made a good start, and managed a 10th position finish overall, and fifth in class.

His next round is at Oulton Park on April 23rd.

Barry thanks E&D Plant Hire, Lucas Communications LTD, and David Johnston Photography for their help.
