Keith Fitzhenry may wish to take up poker after he conquered the field when Mytton Fold Golf Club held the latest round of their Winter Singles competition on Saturday.

With four players – Fitzhenry, Dave Clegg, Phil Hammond and Garry Davies – all scoring 38 points over the 16-hole winter course a card play-off was required to settle the matter, and for the final result to be called in the above order.

Indeed a card play-off was called for to settle the next four positions when Chris Chadwick, Jean Van Boeckel, Brenda Griffith and John Berry all scored 35 points.

With Dave Griffith once again being shown the way to play by wife Brenda, he slipped down the Order of Merit having been leapfrogged by Dave Clegg and John Berry. Brenda, meanwhile has built up a big lead in the ladies’ Order of Merit.

There were four ‘Twos’ with Jean Van Boeckel, Denis Leaver Chris Chadwick and Gary Ashton split the pot.

In the Winter Pairs Jean Van Boeckel and Mick Kelbie were top scorers with 44 points, two ahead of the pairings of Captain Elect Nick Avino/Martin Holden, Denis Leaver/Dave Clegg and Keith Fitzhenry/Barrie Walmsley.

Congratulations to Mytton Fold Golf Club’s ladies Linda Clegg, Pauline White, Judith Kay, Jean Havard and team captain Tarja Wilson, who fought their way through to the second round of the Mail on Sunday Classic on Sunday, beating Longridge GC ladies by 3½ to 1½.
