Incredible score wins Social final

The Mid Week Social Final at Mytton Fold was won by Dave Griffith with an incredible 44 points.

That included a no score on the 4th and a level par score on the back nine holes.

Second, after a count back was Cieran Halsall, one of the club’s promising juniors, with 39 points, recording a better back nine than third place Craig Hall.

In the non qualifiers competition, Jan Van Brockel emerged the winner, after a no score on the first, with a superb 37 points.

The longest drive was won by Wayne Ivinson on the 11th, nearest the pin was won by Frank Hindle on the 1st, and nearest the pin in two on the 17th was also won by Dave Griffith.

The first week of the winter series saw great scoring. On the winter course there were two two’s, one on the 1st by Garth Edwards and one on the 18th by Andy McLeod.

John Parkinson shot up the course with 37 points. Mike Mahon took second with 32 points with Edwards third with 30 points.

The first Winter pairs of the season saw Terry Bigland (19) and Dan Timmins (14) take the first win with 42 points, followed by Wayne Ivinson (3) and John Welch (14) on 40, and third were Richard Palmer (8) and Dave Westwood (14) on 39.

l Christmas came early at Clitheroe Golf Club on Saturday when Paul McGlynn and Mark Slater won the Turkey Shoot with 45 points after a card play-off with Stuart Biggs and Gary Speak, who lost despite birdying the last three holes. Stephen Bayes and Anthony Flanagan were third with 44 points.

Sunday’s Stableford went to Zac Ashworth with 37 points followed by David Parkinson on 35, after a card play-off with John Hacking.

On Thursday the ladies competed in a Fourball Betterball Stableford, and Bernadette Howarth and Sharon Turner took first prize with 46 points, clear of Edith Child and Debra Wood on 42 points, with Judith Bishop and Jan Walsh in third on 37 points after a three-way card play-off.

Meanwhile, Whalley Ladies enjoyed the company of the Whalley Senior men in the annual Florida Scramble shotgun start competition.

It was an enjoyable team event followed by afternoon tea and the presentation of the trophy to the winners , Captain Richard Ferley, Lady Captain Elect Karen Thompson, Marjorie Hanson and June Walmsley.
