Just three days after the England women’s team had won the World Cup at Lords, the girls of Salesbury Cricket Club – the Scarlets – were visited by two of Lancashire’s best young cricketers and potential future stars of England.

After some intensive mopping-up operations, the Ribchester Road ground was dry enough to welcome Ellie Threlkeld and Emma Lamb of the Lancashire Thunder KIA Super League squad.

Twelve Scarlets, along with girls from Whalley and Longridge, were treated to a training session, including batting and bowling techniques, and also a wicket-keeping master class from Lamb.

The girls really enjoyed the session and, as one mother put it: “Ellie and Emma really hit the right notes.”

Girls attending the Friday night training sessions for the Scarlets now have two Lancashire role models to follow as well as the England team.

The Salesbury Scarlets continue to develop in the Lancashire Thunder U12 League.”
