As part of Ribble Valley Borough Council’s leisure promotion for local children through the summer holidays, Whalley Golf Club has run three Friday mornings of golf-orientated activity sessions.

Over 50 boys and girls, mostly non-members, enjoyed games and mini competitions on the putting green, practice areas, nets and on the course. The versatility of Try-Golf equipment provided endless fitness and skill tests. They were all able to benefit from periods of expert tuition from club professional Jamie Hunt.

A group of club members supervised all the activities, providing additional coaching.

Thanks to the club having gained Golf Mark status, the mornings were grant- assisted, with drinks and lunch included, and the club hopes to repeat the venture next year.

On Saturday at Whalley, the Leslie Haynes Trophy was won by R.Robinson with 41 points, three points clear of Stewart Andrews.

The following day, the Herbie Sloan Trophy Mixed Aggregate Stableford, sponsored by John and Betty Rostron, was won by Dick Ferley and Trish Bradley with 68 points.

Second were Chris Thompson and Jenifer Eastwood with 64 points, with Bruce Craig and Francis Gierat third with 63 points.
