Ribble Valley rally ace Russ Thompson got his 2015 BTRDA Gold Star and Production Cup campaign back on track last weekend, taking a strong haul of points on the DMACK Carlisle Stages.
Finishing 10th overall and second in class, the 27-year-old moved into fourth in the overall standings and extended his lead in the Group N table, after recovering from a slow start and capitalising on errors from other crews.
Speaking post rally, Thompson said: “That was a good result. We struggled with the pace in the morning when we were on the wrong tyre, and that put us behind.
“We’ve maybe learnt a bit of a lesson in trusting our guts because once we got comfortable on the harder tyres and knew what they were giving in terms of grip, we were on the class pace.
“We’re still not quite at the level we were at the start of the year, but we’re in a good position heading down to the Nicky Grist Stages in July.”
