IN their first outing of the season, Ribble Valley Netball Club’s senior squad won the Thundersports Blackpool Weekend tournament at Stanley Park.

The first game of the day was against “That Team There” – a Premiership team with talented and experienced players.

Ribble conceded too many goals but put up a great fight.

This was their only defeat, and as the day went on, they became stronger and showed great spirit and determination, winning the rest of their matches.

Finishing second on day one was a great achievement, and day two saw Ribble on court again bright and early.

The locals were placed in the top group for Sunday’s play, and the first match saw Ribble beat Harriers Red 8-2.

The second match against Ambleside was a tough one with there only being one goal in it at full time, as Ribble won again 9-8.

They met Gannets next, who had just secured a 15-5 win against Ambleside, so the locals feared the worst, but another outstanding performance earned a 9-7 win.

With confidence high, the next game saw a 13-3 win against Hot Shots which pushed Ribble Valley into the semi-finals against “That Team There’again.

A very tense game saw the locals 5-4 down at half-time, but the efforts of everyone on court were rewarded with fantastic shooting under pressure and tan 8-7 victory.

The final pitted Ribble against Leeds 1, and nothing was going to stop the girls from taking home the trophy.

After an outstanding team performance they were crowned tournament winners, beating Leeds 11-8.
