Tommi Meadows was relieved to get to the finish of the Peter Lloyd Rallying Stages in Pembrokeshire at the weekend.

The junior rally driver, 14, was back out competing in his Nissan Micra rally car, a week after the car was finished being repaired from an incident on a rally earlier in the season.

Tommi and co driver Ian Oakey got off to a good start on the first stage, setting the fourth fastest time of 14 junior drivers, and the fastest Micra.

Slippery conditions caught out several competitors in the early stages, however the pair had a clean run with no problems to report.

Stage two and three would be the same as each other, and would use the infamous beach road, which is a narrow section of road around a mile long, with big ditches on either side, leaving no room for error - anyone who leaves the road doesn’t get back on!

“I think on the second stage we were probably slightly too cautious, but I would rather drop a few seconds to other competitors than have a repeat of my previous event, and go off the road,” said Meadows,

“Stage three was a re-run of stage two, and we pushed much harder to shave almost a minute of our time for the previous stage!’”

Rival competitor Zak Hughes had a watery end to stage two when his Citroen C1 left the beach road and stopped on its side in a river.

The final two stages of this 55 mile event were drier than the morning’s stages, which allowed Meadows to keep on the road and eventually finish sixth - and third of people scoring points.

“Sixth may seem disappointing, but I am happy with this result because it is my first time driving a rally car since August, and the alterations we have made to the car have changed the way it feels completely,’” said Tommi.

“The new Cybox Exhaust made a huge difference to the responsiveness of the throttle, and there was no lag between gears like there used to be with the old exhaust system.

“I would like to thank James Alpe Limited, Cybox Exhausts, Chorley Group, TAROX Brakes, Proflex Shock Absorbers and A-Frame Engineering for their much appreciated support,” added Tommi.

Tommi is now looking forward to his next rally - a two day event incorporating night stages at Anglesey Circuit on November 1st-2nd.
