Tim Henman OBE was on hand to officially open the new tennis dome facility at Stonyhurst College.
The former British Number 1 and four-time Wimbledon semi-finalist joined staff and pupils at the historic college to officially open the brand new world-class sports facility.
The project, started during the summer of 2016, features two Grand Slam size indoor courts with flood lighting and heating.
The investment is part of Stonyhurst’s vision to take its renowned Tennis Programme to a whole new level and achieve LTA Clubmark Plus Accreditation.
Ian Murphy, Headmaster of Stonyhurst St Mary’s Hall, said: “Tim is a huge advocate for investment in grass roots tennis and we couldn’t wait to show him this fantastic facility.
“The dome will provide all pupils and the wider school community with a whole new world of tennis related opportunities, supported by professional coaching.”
Stonyhurst has two professional tennis coaches working with the school community; J.J. Garcia Gomez and Lauren Banks. The College also has 10 existing outdoor courts.
Mr Murphy concluded: “The dome represents a huge and significant leap in terms of what we can offer here at Stonyhurst. It is another proud day for the College.”
