A THRILLING afternoon of rugby finished with St Augustine’s being crowned Tag Rugby League champions.
More than 100 girls from eight high schools took part in the competition co-ordinated by the East Lancashire Community Rugby League .
The tournament took place at Accrington Academy and included Haslingden, Accrington Academy, Clitheroe Grammar, St Christopher’s, Hollins, St Augustine’s, Alder Grange and Mount Carmel.
The Schools were split into two groups of four with the winners going through to the final and the second place teams playing off for third place.
In Group A St Augustine’s and Haslingden battled it out in the final game to see who would reach the final. The game ended all square with St Augustine’s edging it on tries scored.
Group B was an even tighter affair with Hollins coming out on top on tries scored after finishing on the same points as Accrington Academy and Clitheroe Grammar.
Haslingden won the third place playoff defeating Accrington Academy.
The final was an end to end affair with St Augustine’s running out winners over Hollins by two tries.
