Clitheroe’s Sophie Lamb has been selected as one of five England players to make the cut for the Great Britain and Ireland team that will look to defend the Curtis Cup in June’s match against the USA.
The international golfer represented her nation in last year’s Vagliano Trophy match against continental Europe and was a part of England’s winning team in the European Championships.
Lamb will be joined in the team of eight by India Clyburn, Annabell Fuller, Alice Hewson and Lily May Humphreys as well as Ireland duo Olivia Mahaffey and Paula Grant and Scotland’s Shannon McWilliam.
The Curtis Cup will be played from June 8th at Quaker Ridge, New York.
l The NettletonTrophy at Clitheroe on Saturday was won by Malcolm Goldsworthy and Christopher Smith at Clitheroe with 45 points.
Sunday’s Par Competition was won by Thomas Harper, who finished level with par.
Also on Sunday, an EGM competition for the lady members was won by Sheila Cornwell with a score of nett 80, and Fynlay Legood led the field in round 3 of the Junior Easter Championship with his score of 97-35-62.
The Scott Leggett Foursomes for ladies on Thursday produced a runaway winner in the pairing of Bethan and Kim Andrew, who scored 37 points to take first place.
A nine hole Ladies’ Stableford was won by Judy Wooley with 13 points.
Thirty pairs competed in a Seniors’ Mixed Open last Wednesday, when the winners were John Hilton and Louise Aspden with a score of 41 points.
The Seniors’ Team turned out on Monday for their Ribble Valley League return match against Ashton and Lea Golf Club and ran out the winners by 8 points to 4, giving then an overall win of 14 points to 10.
l At Mytton Fold, the two-day Pharman Cup was won by Dan Timmins on a card play off with Wayne Ivinson.
Dan scored 72+70=142, with Wayne scoring 69+73=142.
In the ladies’ section, Tarja Wilson took first prize with a net score of 82.
l Last Thursday the Ladies at Whalley, the Scott Leggatt Foursomes Qualifier was won by Allison Nuttall and Hazel Sellars with 32 points.
Other qualifiers were Maggie Harvey and Fran Gierat with 29 and lady captain, Agnus Flanagan and Bridget Rees with 27 pts. They all go on to play at Rossendale.
