Sawley rower Jon Schofield teamed up with race partner Liam Heath to take silver in the latest World Cup event of the season in Szeged, Hungary.
The London 2012 bronze medalists scooped their first piece of silverware of the campaign when narrowly beaten in to second by German victors Ronald Rauhe and Tom Liebscher.
The finish was a vast improvement on the pair’s showing at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup in Racice, Czech Republic, where they finished fourth in the K2 200m category.
After winning heat four of the competition in comprehensive fashion, beating Canadian duo Ryan Cochrane and Richard Dober, the pair recorded the second fastest time of the semi-finals ahead of prolific Russian racers Yury Postrygay and Alexander Dyachenko.
However, they fell behind the German and Russian crews in the final as well as French pair Arnaud Hybois and Sebastien Jouve.
