The regular Wednesday and Friday morning golfers who comprise the group known as “Murphy’s Roll-up” held their annual Christmas meeting at Clitheroe Golf Club last Wednesday.
A dozen hardy souls braved the wet and wintry conditions for a round of golf before joining other members of the group for a festive meal in the clubhouse.
Before the meal, the 30 Roll-Uppers stood in silence in memory of Peter Murtagh, the founder and organiser of the twice weekly meetings, who passed away in July this year.
The announcement that an anonymous donor had given a trophy to be known as “Murphy’s Mug” to be played for each year in his memory was well received.
A number of entertaining jokes and stories were told around the table following the meal and the prize for the “silliest tie” was won by Geoff Roberts.
