RIBBLE Valley Netball Club won the first-ever Under 14s’ Fastnet tournament in Eccles.
It was a long day , but the girls worked hard, using the same seven players throughout.
Ribble Valley won all their matches in Group A and played the Group B runners-up Trafford. After a shaky start, they stayed positive and focused and won through to play current National champions Tameside in the final.
With no substitutes, the game was close for the first three quarters, but Ribble Valley always had a slight lead.
Despite being tired in the last quarter, the girls knew they had to open the gap even more. Power play was taken by both teams and the Ribble girls stormed through the quarter, winning the game 23-16 and the overall title.
The club have been extremely busy of late, also sending six squads of eager netballers, aged between 9 and 13, to Pontins at Prestatyn Sands in North Wales.
They took on two days of netball matches against teams from Wales, Birmingham and Manchester.
The girls played hard both on and off the court - when the girls were not playing netball, they bonded together bike riding and swimming .
Some of the younger girls had not played matches before, but it did not matter, they just got stuck in.
Everyone’s skills developed over the weekend and teams bonded.
Squads at Under 13 and u11 managed to reach the final.
Unfortunately neither could pull a win off against Trafford, though the Under 11s only lost by one goal!
