LOCAL sidecar pairing of Russ and Rod Pearce still lead their class in the British F2 Sidecar Championship after the weekend’s events at the Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire, despite only finishing one race.
Qualifying took place on the Saturday, and the Pearce brothers battled their way into a strong 10th place on the grid, second in their class.
This quick pace carried through to the afternoon’s race, which saw the pairing hold steadfast and maintain their second place, adding a further 20 points to their tally.
Conditions at the circuit took a turn for the worst overnight, and despite a sunny respite in the morning, a thunderstorm loomed in the early part of the afternoon.
This would prove to play a part in the eventual downfall of the pairing as they failed to complete the second race due to a series of electrical faults.
The storm took hold in the latter part of the 12-lap race, with it having to be cancelled just nine laps in due to the rainfall becoming torrential.
After the brace of races the duo have extended their lead over Dean Lindley and Leon Fitzpatrick, who came into the meeting in second but, after a DNF and an eighth, slip to third.
The Pearce brothers will now take their solid 70-point lead into the penultimate round at Snetterton where they hope to clinch the title.
