MYTTON Fold Golf Club’s Seniors took Cheshire by storm when they visited Portal Golf Club’s Championship and Premier courses last week.

For three days, 33 of the Langho club’s finest battled over four competitions, with the highlight being the Frank Hargreaves Memorial Trophy.

Played on the first day over the championship course, the trophy was won by Barry Hargreaves (Division One winner) with 37 points and by Mick Mahon (Division Two winner) with 38 points.

Captain-elect Gordon Lucas (36 points) was runner-up in Division One, whilst Mick Walsh (36 points) came second in Division Two.

Mahon also dipped into the prizes with ‘nearest the pin’ as did Walsh, being a member of the drawn secret team with Dave Pennington (26 points) and Frank Havard (34 points).

The second day saw the conclusion of the two-day Autumn Shield and the Andy Capp Trophy. With an excellent 39 points to add to his first day’s 34 points, Havard took both trophies. Eddie Bootle took the Andy Capp runner-up position, whilst Donald Simpson took third.

The secret draw team prizes went to Eddie Scott, Gordon Watts and Graham Slater, while Ted Bamborough was nearest the pin on the 15th hole.

The final day saw Mytton Fold’s Seniors back to the Premier course and Havard successful again with 36 points.

Playing in the final group with Frank were Glynn Watson, who finished second with 34 points, and Frank Hindle (33 points), third after a card play-off.

Highlight of the trip is the award of the Pig Trophy and the Clown Award. Scott won the Pig, whilst Pennington won the Clown.
