Clitheroe’s Samantha Murray missed out on a place in the final of World Cup 3 in Hungary last Thursday.
Rio Olympian Murray was placed in qualifying Group A, beginning her day in the fencing hall.
It was a tough day for Lancashire’s Murray, with the reigning British champion recording 10 victories.
In the pool, former Ribble Valley MPC athlete Murray produced a season’s best time of 2:12.07.
It meant Murray sat 15th, facing an uphill task to make it into the top 10 automatically qualifying places.
Despite her best efforts, the gap for Murray was too large, and she crossed the line 17th after the running and shooting element.
Teammates Kate French and Jo Muir finished their first international appearances of 2018 in encouraging fashion, as they both recorded top 20 finishes.
French was inside the top 10 for the majority of the day in Hungary before slipping to 11th on the final lap of the laser run, with Muir producing a strong run-shoot performance to come home 19th.
