MICK Mahon roasted the rest of the field when he won Mytton Fold Golf Club’s Turkey Shoot on Saturday.
Played in very gusty conditions and with the occasional drop of rain thrown in, the field faced challenging conditions over the 16-hole winter course.
Mick’s exceptional 42 point haul was more than enough to bring the bacon, or more correctly the turkey, home.
Second-placed Frank Havard’s 34 points was just enough to beat Jim Bridge into third spot on a card play-off.
It was a day for Mytton Fold’s more venerable golfers, with eleven of the top dozen finishers coming from the club’s senior section.
Former Captain Ian Thomson had the clichéd ‘game of two halves’.
With 23 points on the front nine, he was heading for the checkout, only for the wheels to fall off his trolley with just three points coming from his last seven holes.
There were three twos on the day. Jim Bridge and Dave Halsall birdied the first, while Gary Ashton waited until the eleventh before making his two.
The ladies were faced with drier, but blustery weather on Sunday for their Turkey Shoot. Following her fantastic run of successes over the summer season, Allison Nuttall continued to dominate the field.
30 points over 16 holes put her four points clear of both Jean Sanderson and Linda Clegg, with the former taking the runner up slot on a card play-off.
