Clitheroe fighter Luke Blackledge is the new WBC International Silver super middleweight champion.
The 24-year-old beat Ghanaian Philip Kotey via a unanimous decision after 10 rounds at King George’s Hall in Blackburn.
Ringside judges Alvin Finch, Mark Lyson and Shaun Messer all scored the contest 100-91 to land Blackledge the third strap of his career.
“It was a hard fight, a bit of a war at times, so I was happy to get 10 rounds under my belt,” he said. “A lot of people said that it was the fight of the night so I’m pleased with that.
“He was an awkward opponent and he could punch. He kept looking for the big shots to try and knock me out but that forced me to switch on.
“I just had to keep my defence tight and press him whenever I could. I landed some big shots. I was happy with my performance. I stuck to the game plan and pretty much won every round.”
