Local rider Lauren Bellamy has been selected for exclusive training under the Pony Club’s Rider Development Pathway.

The Rider Development Pathway is supported by Sport England and funded by BEF Excel Talent Programme.

It is designed to aid the development of members who show the ability to progress in their sport and provides a stepping stone for young riders workings towards the talent pathways of the Olympic disciplines, British Equestrian Federation’s Sport England-funded Excel Talent Programme and the UK Sport-funded World Class Programme.

Lauren was one of 30 riders from all over the UK selected to attend a two-day camp in Somerford where riders received expert discipline specific coaching, video analysis of test riding or course jumping, mounted and dismounted balance and position sessions and goal setting help and advice.

From the camp, six riders, two from each discipline, were selected to form the RDP squad who will receive further support which includes funding for training, allocation of a sport-specific mentor to each rider and further dismounted (equestrian and non-equestrian) training opportunities.

This is an amazing achievement by Lauren and a fantastic opportunity for her, proving that commitment and hard work do pay dividends.

Lauren bought her horse Rio as a novice and has brought her on herself. She will be representing the Isle of Man branch of the Pony Club at the the Berkeley Homes Pony Club Championships between August 19-23 at Cholmondeley Castle, Cheshire where she will be competing in the open eventing.

Isle of Man Pony Club is proud to have Lauren as a member and wish her good luck for the championships and success with her training.
