Clitheroe’s rugby men recorded a fine win, in their penultimate game of the season.

The maroons fell behind as they found themselves short on numbers in defence and the visitors swooped for an opening converted try.

But a prolonged period of play in the Eagle 22 saw Clitheroe score two tries in quick succession, the first from Alex Hough, swiftly followed by skipper Nathan Peel. Both conversions were blasted wide to make it 10-7 at half-time.

Eagle threw the kitchen sink at Clitheroe and twice got over the line only to be denied from grounding the ball.

The pressure told, and after a series of close range scrimmages, they retook the lead with a converted try.

However, after a break from Matt Bartle, Hough was on hand for the scoring pass and Peel converted.

Final Score: Clitheroe RUFC 17, Eagle RUFC 14
