Skate star Rebecca Smethurst is turning the heat up after being invited to a prestigious International Skate School in Madrid.

The Blackburn College student will have five days of intense training under the watchful eyes of two former Olympians in August.

It will help the 16-year-old pass her Level 1 Figure Coaching exams which are part of her BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport.

“I have been skating since I was eight years old. I went to try it out, enjoyed it and then started taking lessons” said the former Ribblesdale High School pupil.

“I represent Blackburn in figure skating all over the United Kingdom and my coach Catherine Hudson invited me to Madrid as she has been over a number of times.

“I will be coached by former Olympians and international coaches and I will be able to pick up different ideas for warm-ups and other new skills. I will also get the chance to meet other skaters from all over Europe.

“It will also help me to pass my Level 1 Figure Coaching exams as I want to coach in the future.”
