In their 40th season, Clitheroe Rugby Club finally got their third XV up and running at the weekend, though visitors Skipton were too strong, winning 43-5.

Sam Grooby had the honour of scoring their first-ever try.

Unfortunately it was their only try of the game – Clitheroe took a while to get going, and Skipton were deseved winners on the day.

Clitheroe improved as the game progessed, and could have had more scores with a little more composure.

Their next fixture is at Carnforth on November 26th.

On Saturday, Clitheroe’s first team beat Liverpool St Helens 55-14 as they bounced back from last weekend’s defeat at Penrith.

Joe Hopkins went over for the first try, before Nathan Peel kicked a penalty, and then full back Kino forced his way over to make it 15-0.

Shortly after, Tom Houldsworth ran 55 metres for a debut score, which Peel converted.

In the second half, LSH pulled it back to 22-14., but Will Dickenson drove over for a converted score, and Clitheroe cut loose with a further four tries for Chris Stewart, Rick Slinger, Edward Dickinson and Peel, with three conversions, two from Peel and one from Rick Slinger.
