A Clitheroe golfer will rub shoulders with the world’s best players today when he takes his place in the Open Championship.
Mark Young will tee-off late in the afternoon at the world famous St Andrews course – widely regarded as the home of golf – in Scotland.
The 33-year-old – who only turned professional at the end of last year after a fine amateur career – qualified for his first Major after topping the list of qualifiers at the Gailes Links course in Ayrshire.
He will hit his first ball at 3-57 p.m. today alongside American Daniel Berger and Pelle Edberg, of Sweden.
The trio will be back out on the fairway tomorrow at 10-39 a.m. hoping to make the final cut.
It’s an amazing turn of events for Young, who manufactures conservatories. He travelled up to Scotland at the weekend and has managed a few rounds on the famous old course with a few well-known faces.
