For the second year in succession, Mark Slater walked away with Mytton Fold’s Post Office Cup with a +5 score in this individual Par competition.
Despite being played in summery conditions, the course beat all but 10 of the entrants.
Despite an excellent round of 75 Wayne Ivinson could only finish in second spot with a +3, beating Leigh Canipa into third via a card playoff.
There were three players who divided the twos pot, with Leigh Canipa and John Parkinson birdying the 9th and Philip Hammond doing likewise on the final hole.
Mytton Fold’s Ladies enjoyed their Away Days at Aldwark Manor near York. Day One consisted of a close-fought Stableford competition which required a card playoff to finally determine the winner. Joanne Allen, with 39 points, took the trophy, with Allison Nuttall taking the runner-up slot. Gillian Pinder secured the final podium position with 33 points.
A Texas Scramble format was the order of play for the second day, with Joanne Allen leading her team of Lady Captain Elect Patricia Leyland, Doreen Hammond and Kathy Pennington to an overall win.
The Seniors played their Andy Capp Handicap on the final day of their Away Days trip to Hill Valley Golf Complex in Shropshire. Here demon handicapper Tony Wilson adjusted players’ handicaps based upon players’ performances over the two previous days.
Star of the show was Jim Bridge, complete with crutch and fresh from a very recent knee replacement. Jim’s 39 points plus 6 ‘bonus points’ gave him the win over Frank Havard (37+6) and Eddie Booth (33+10).
